Professional Identity and Conduct (PIC)

If you thought integrating knowledge with theory was a little too personal just buckle up for the next section. Professional Identity and Conduct Competencies (PIC) seek to demonstrate that you know yourself and how this influences your conduct. One of the first books recommended to me in my first CPE unit was The Wounded Healer by Henri Nouwen. I bought it used online and it was as beat up on the cover as I felt on the inside, quite symbolic in a way. This book helped to describe for me some of my past pain and how I could bring that to help others in ministry. The “P” may stand for “Professional” but you’ll come to find it is quite personal as well.
PIC 1
Identify one’s professional strengths and limitations in the provision of spiritual care.
PIC 2
Articulate ways in which one’s feelings, values, assumptions, culture, and social location affect professional practice.
