PIC 7

7 Function within the APC/NACC/NAJC Code of Ethics.

PIC 7 asks the candidate to demonstrate how they function within the Common Code of Ethics[1] There are many ethics codes a chaplain is subject to and the candidate should be able to demonstrate at least one difficult ethical issue using the Code of Ethics. Some examples include exercising due caution with electronic transfer of information. This could be as simple as complying with the security requirements and internet safety training with the hospital.

Representing oneself accurately is an important one too. The ethical chaplain won’t advertise degrees that are not approved by a certifying body. One example for me is that I recently completed a certificate for Thanatology (death and dying) studies. This is separate from being “certified” in that field which I cannot ethically claim until official certification is achieved.
